PHOTOGRAPHER Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, who is known for his portraits of the famous and talented from Orson Welles to Sen. Hillary Clinton, has lately been taking pictures of porn stars.
"Everyone's posing with their clothes on and with their clothes off," Greenfield-Sanders told PAGE SIX.
The photos will appear in a book, "XXX," along with essays on pornography by Adam Gopnik, John Malkovich, A.M. Holmes, Whitley Strieber, Nancy Friday and Bret Easton Ellis.
The shutterbug recently returned from Los Angeles where he shot Vivid stars Savanna Samson, Sunrise Adams, Kira Kenner and Jenna Jameson, who Greenfield-Sanders found to be "an absolute delight, funny and beautiful and very, very smart."
Porn legends Nina Hartley, Ron "The Hedgehog" Jeremy and Ginger Lynn posed, as well as Bella Donna, who was prominently featured in a recent Diane Sawyer report, and newcomer Mariposa.
Adam Glasser, who makes porn flicks under the pseudonym of Seymour Butts, cooperated. Glasser has a reality show on HBO, "Family Business," which shows him working with his mother.
"And I'm working on getting [porn legend] Vanessa Del Rio," Greenfield-Sanders said. To be inclusive, he also photographed gay porn stars Michael Lucas and Chad Hunt.
There was a rumor that some porn personalities who came to Greenfield-Sanders' photo studio on East Second Street brought along a "fluffer," a term in the trade for an off-camera person who prepares male actors to perform.
"There was one guy who said he had to be as [aroused] as possible because his fans expected it," the photographer said.
"At first I was very uncomfortable because I've never shot people in the nude before. But to them it's nothing. They're not embarrassed at all, and they're great in front of the camera, as you'd expect."
Jordan Schaps, who created the covers for New York magazine for 23 years, is producing the book. The photos eventually will be exhibited at the Mary Boone gallery.
